Meet Yésely Love of Canaima Design in West University

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yésely Love.

This is the core philosophy of Canaima Design, a new interior design and remodeling firm founded in 2016 by the principal designer Yésely Love. Headed up by American-Venezuelan, Canaima focuses on transforming both residential and commercial spaces into objects d’art using a broad scope of decorative influences that perfectly combine minimalism, innovation, and exciting ingenuity.

Yésely’s deep passion for interior décor has been many years in the making, with roots stretching way back into her childhood. Her earliest decorative influences stem from her grandmother, who was equally inspired by culture and arts making and designing it by herself. The very name of Yésely’s company stems from these Venezuelan roots, where the world’s tallest waterfall – Angel Falls – can be found within Canaima National Park. Yésely moved to Houston in 2008 after being raised by a full family of engineers and completing her Bachelor degree in Mass Media Communications at Santa Maria University in Caracas, Venezuela.

Her experience started during her first few years of college, she specialized for more than 12 years in sales and marketing for the corporate energy industry traveling to over 40 countries in the world. No matter her professional role, however, her drive to pursue her dreams in interior design persisted on a side; and no matter where she found herself, that drive encouraged her to pursue countless personal projects within her own living spaces and social events until she eventually founded her very own design firm.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Surprisingly, Yesely started to get clients sooner than expected, including international projects in Spain, Mexico, Venezuela, and Colombia. Nowadays, Canaima is a family-owned firm launched chiefly by young female entrepreneurs with decades’ worth of experience in construction and design.

Her team also boasts the same level of expertise, having attended dozens of exhibitions like the High Point Market, Casa Decor, Salone del Mobile, NY NOW and Design Miami to stay up to date with the latest industry trends. Continuous education through ASID, GHBA, AIA and countless vendors across the United States are par for the course for the company’s staff force, guaranteeing their ability to offer the best possible knowledge and advice to clients and contractors alike. Better still, their ability to liaise with their clients in English, Spanish, Italian and Russian is the proverbial cherry on top of the many immaculate, passion-driven services that the Canaima Design team brings to its customers on a daily basis.

Canaima Design team got selected to design the Media Room in the ASID Showhouse of Houston at River Oaks in 2019, the opportunity has been a privilege in the H-Town city to expose more the multi-cultural skills that they can offer in design.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Canaima Design story. Tell us more about the business.
Just a few of the team’s key areas of expertise include renovation and decoration of kitchens, bathrooms, and patios, along with lighting, landscaping, flooring, painting, window treatments, and all-encompassing handyman services as well. Of course, their capabilities don’t end there; the team also offers comprehensive consultations across all areas of the interior design and remodeling spectrum, including lighting, floors, fabrics, furniture, home accessories, and highly acclaimed, limited-edition gallery pieces.

Each project that makes its way into Canaima’s capable hands unfolds in a unique way that is entirely dependent on the contributions of the team as a whole. The expertise and opinions of the client, the architects, the engineers, and the contractors are all taken into consideration when orchestrating an idea into a meaningful and successful project. In the meantime, Yésely’s own unique vision offers an irreplaceable perspective that sets Canaima’s handiwork apart from anything else the interior design industry has to offer.

Never sticking purely to the purity of style, she loves improving on new techniques and taking her design concepts out of the box without put apart the functionality. Her relentless perfectionism is evident in every space she touches, and her playground can be found in her original creations, where spontaneity meets a blend of shabby chic, art deco, western, transitional and mid-century modern styles – and a healthy touch of magic to boot.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Every role is challenging, from the time to introduce to a potential client, through the process of installation services and the final step of seeing the final results. I think that everything depends on the skills of each person, some people have good strength in design but at the same time they don’t know how to deal with clients, or you can’t design but you can’t sell a design package pretty easy. I will say that is not a “good luck or bad luck” role, the most important is to be positioned in the right path for your skills.
